Dear Lava Ridge Families...

We created this page for those who may be dealing with suicide or self-harm in some way; and, as such, you may have concerns about your child's well being.

We want to assure you that we take their safety and emotional health very seriously.

At Lava Ridge, we want you to understand that we are here for you, extending our unwavering support during this trying time. Our primary focus is on your child's safety, and we are fully dedicated to providing the necessary resources and assistance to ensure their well-being.

With this in mind, we've linked to a collection of materials that we believe could be instrumental in helping your family navigate this difficult terrain. These resources encompass various aspects such as suicide prevention education, firearm safety, secure medication storage, and social media awareness. We encourage you to take a close look at these materials as they offer valuable insights and practical strategies tailored to address the critical issues your child is facing.

Please know that you are not alone in this journey. Our school is here to support you and your child throughout this process. If you have any questions, concerns, or require additional assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

Our shared goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where every student can thrive both academically and emotionally. We are grateful for your partnership in achieving this goal and appreciate your trust in us.

Safe UT is a 24/7 hotline for mental health support. They partner with our school to notify counselors of possible concerns.

If your student is referred to the Counselors for suicidal ideation or thoughts of self-harm, we will take the following steps to keep them safe and get them the help they need:

  • We will complete a risk assessment using the Columbia Suicide Severity Scale. Click here to learn more about this tool.

  • For all risk levels:

    • we will complete an LRIS Safety Plan. Click here to see this tool.

    • we will contact parent(s) or guardian(s) with resources on this page and other resources specific to their situation.

    • We will offer free therapy to student through our Mental Health Assistance Program (MHAP).

  • For HIGH risk levels, in addition to the above, we will also:

    • contact the appropriate responsible adult so that the child is not left alone, and can be transported to a safe place for continued care.

    • Coordinate the student's return to school so that school personnel is prepared to support their transition back to school.
